You’ll need to get creative in order to find the best spots on the island like serene tropical streams and crescent-shaped beaches. Kayak the Wailua River, zipline in the rainforest or go snorkel on Poipu Beach – any outdoor activity is done at the most leisurely pace that coincides with the relaxed nature of this island.

This is the oldest of the Hawaiian islands but it has aged more gracefully than anyone could imagine. The sharp peaks, serrated cliffs and stunning scenery keep getting more amazing as the years go on.

Fun Fact: Known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon is where Jurassic Park was filmed.

Kaua’i is lush, idyllic and peaceful. There is no nightlife like on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. This place is for those looking to escape into endless shades of green. Real nature lovers will rejoice once they touchdown on Kaua’i.

Although most of the island is inaccessible by car, we still highly recommend renting a car. You’ll want to be able to drive to excursion meeting points, restaurants and great hiking spots.

Since you can’t drive to the most beautiful places on this island, we suggest taking to the skies. If you’re not afraid of heights a helicopter tour is a must-do on Kaua’i. Sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding along the coast are popular too.

All you need to do it take a short flight from Oahu or Maui. The flight time from Honolulu (HNL) is about 30 minutes and the flight from Maui (OGG) takes only 45 minutes. These inter-island flights are often low in cost, which makes it easy and affordable to get between the islands. This allows you to fit the most experiences possible into your Hawaiian vacation.
